LA PLATA, Md. โ A two-vehicle crash in Charles County left four people injured and prompted multiple medical transports, including two medevac flights, after a collision on Port Tobacco Road near Chestnut Hill Place Saturday afternoon.
The crash occurred on May 31, 2025, around 2:30 p.m. when a call to 911 reported one vehicle into the woods and another with occupants trapped. The La Plata Volunteer Fire Department, Rescue Engine 1 was first on scene and found one person heavily entrapped. Crews worked swiftly to extricate the patient with assistance from additional units.
Emergency responders ultimately transported four patients from the scene. Two were airlifted to regional trauma centers via MSP Trooper 2 and U.S. Park Police Eagle 2, while two others were transported by ground to local hospitals.
Dispatch confirmed a total of 18 units responded to the scene, including BC8A, PA519, PA8, PA209, and RE1. The crash temporarily closed Port Tobacco Road between Hilltop Road and Chestnut Hill Place, with notifications issued through the Charles County Citizen Notification System.
According to officials, at least one of the injured was a child suffering from a nosebleed and head trauma. One of the adult victims was initially unconscious and had difficulty breathing until crews secured their airway.
The cause of the crash has not been officially released. Authorities confirmed that both vehicles sustained serious damage and that one had to be stabilized before extrication could be completed.
