OWINGS, Md. — A Lusby man faces multiple misdemeanor drug charges after a traffic stop in Owings led to the recovery of suspected controlled dangerous substances and drug paraphernalia, according to charging documents.
Kevin Darnell Commodore, 38, was arrested Jan. 8, 2026, following a traffic stop near Boyds Turn Road and Prosper Lane. According to a statement of probable cause, a Calvert County sheriff’s deputy observed a gray Toyota Camry traveling through the area and identified the driver as Commodore, who deputies believed may have been wanted in connection with a failure-to-appear warrant.
The deputy followed the vehicle to a gas station at 136 E. Chesapeake Beach Road, where Commodore parked briefly before returning to the driver’s seat. After confirming Commodore’s identity through Calvert County Control Center, the deputy activated emergency lights and initiated contact.
Police reported Commodore was taken into custody without incident. A search of his person allegedly revealed multiple items consistent with drug paraphernalia, including modified plastic straws and a glass smoking device containing white powder residue. Deputies also reported locating a capsule and folded currency containing suspected controlled dangerous substances.
According to the report, a search of the vehicle uncovered an additional capsule containing a white powdery substance concealed inside a storage compartment beneath the steering wheel. Based on training and experience, deputies stated the items were consistent with substances used to ingest or transport narcotics.
Investigators reported Commodore later stated the substance recovered from the straws was fentanyl. Laboratory testing has been requested to determine the exact composition of the substances.
Court records show Commodore is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance not cannabis and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors.
Commodore was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center and later released on his own recognizance. A trial scheduling hearing is set for Feb. 12 in Calvert District Court.
