LEONARDTOWN, Md. — A routine patrol along St. Andrews Church Road turned into a criminal investigation when a vehicle driven by a Prince Frederick man overturned into a ditch on March 12, 2026, and a loaded, untraceable firearm was allegedly discovered inside.

According to Maryland State Police (MSP) reports, 22-year-old Zamahri Lydell Talley lost control of his truck while merging onto Point Lookout Road. The vehicle reportedly lost control and went into a ditch, flipping onto its roof. Talley told officers he broke the windshield to allow himself and a passenger to exit safely.

Court records state first responders from the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department arrived to treat the occupants. During treatment, Talley allegedly admitted to having a loaded handgun without a serial number inside the truck and reportedly asked firefighters to hide the weapon from law enforcement.

Police reports indicate that when troopers inspected the overturned vehicle, they observed an empty holster on the front passenger seat. A subsequent probable cause search recovered a black Polymer 80-style handgun without a serial number, loaded with one 9mm round in the chamber and 10 additional rounds in the magazine. Talley was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center.

According to charging documents, Talley faces multiple charges, including possession of a firearm without a serial number, possession of a handgun in a vehicle, carrying a loaded handgun in a vehicle, and failure to control vehicle speed to avoid a collision. He was released on personal recognizance March 17, 2026.

A trial is scheduled for April 14, 2026, in St. Mary’s County District Court. Maryland law carries significant penalties for firearm-related offenses, including up to five years in prison for possession of a firearm without a serial number and up to three years for carrying a loaded handgun without proper authorization if convicted.

  1. He was “authorized” to carry by the 2nd Amendment, and the Bruen decision confirmed that right. The absence of a serial number is also a non-issue since serial numbers were not a historical thing and the Breun decision ruled that requirement unconstitutional.
The only legitimate charge is the failure to control a vehicle.
