
LA PLATA, Md. — The Charles County Public Library received initial approval for its new fundraiser event, Books, Bites, & Beats Fest, following the Charles County Commissioners’ meeting on Feb. 4, 2025. Organizers will now seek final approval from the liquor license board.
The event will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Waldorf West Library & Hilton Garden Inn-Waldorf.
The festival promises an exciting lineup of indoor and outdoor activities, making it a must-attend event for book lovers, foodies, and music enthusiasts alike. Attendees can look forward to an exclusive author brunch, wine tasting, live music, food trucks, vendors, a pop-up used bookstore, children’s activities, and more.
Event Highlights:
- VIP Author Brunch: Featuring New York Times bestselling author Dolen Perkins-Valdez.
- VIP Wine Tasting: Live music by DMV songstress, pianist, and DJ Desiree Jordan, paired with an interactive wine tasting.
- Outdoor Festivities: A vendor and author marketplace, pop-up used bookstore by Citizens for the Charles County Public Library (C4CCPL), music by DJ Hefbeats, food trucks, children’s activities, and more.

Businesses and community members can support the festival through sponsorship levels ranging from $500 to $17,000 for Diamond Sponsors. Sponsors will play a key role in bringing this event to life and supporting local literacy initiatives.
During the commissioners’ meeting, Commissioner Ralph Patterson inquired about the inclusion of local wineries. Shannon Bland, representing the library, clarified that the wine tasting would be managed by event planner Em Henry, who has successfully hosted numerous nonprofit wine-tasting events in the county.
