CALIFORNIA — Anita Winston, 86, was killed in a house fire Friday morning at her residence on Colmar Lane.
ย Bay District Volunteer Fire Department crews responded after a 911 call came in shortly after 9 a.m.
ย Firefighters encountered high heat and smoke conditions, but no fire, reports Deputy Fire Chief Jason Adams.ย
ย The crew split and started a search and to locate the seat of the fire.Captain Jones and Sergeant Kyle Adams found the fire in a bedroom and located a victim lying in the floor and notified the command that they were removing the victim at 9:15 a.m.Captain Jones and Sergeant Adams met with Sergeant Beach in the hallway were they joined efforts in removing the victim to the front lawn to awaiting EMS personnel.
ย Unaware if other residents were still in the house, the three entered the house and performed a vigorous search of the residence, with no other victims found. Other crews from Bay District VFD and Hollywood VFD assisted with ventilation and performing numerous secondary searches which proved to be negative.
ย Despite all the efforts of all personnel on the scene the female victim succumbed to her injuries.
ย The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshall’s Office.
