Prince Frederick, MD – A retired astronaut will be attending an open house at Spaceflight America Museum and Science Center on the campus of Calvert High School (CHS) in Prince Frederick. According to museum officials, Dr. Don Thomas will be available to meet attendees of the Nov. 7 open house at 6 p.m. at CHS Auditorium. He will also speak on his experiences as an astronaut.
The museumโs open house will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. and will feature exhibits, drone flights and hands-on activities. The museumโs gift shop will be open. Attendees are invited to walk through the museumโs new International Space Station exhibit and learn how astronauts live and work in space.
A Cleveland native, Thomas joined the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in 1988 as a materials engineer. He became an astronaut in 1991. He is a veteran of four space shuttle flights during the 1990s and has logged over 1,040 hours in space. He currently helms the math and science academy at Towson University.
Thomas has also had the distinction of once being featured in the daily comics. Heโin animated formโwas guest aboard the spacecraft โR.U. Siriusโ in the comic strip โBrewster Rockit.โ
โCalvert High School has a 989-seat auditorium and it would be great to fill it up for Donโs talk at 6 p.m.,โ stated museum spokesman Dan Bramos.
Calvert High School is located on Dares Beach Road in Prince Frederick.
