SOLOMONS, Md. — The longstanding Rita’s of Solomons, located at 13450 H.G. Trueman Rd., will open later this month with familiar owners.
Jeff Burroughs and Robyn Hanson just purchased the Rita’s this month and are busy with the process of finalizing the sale and preparing the Rita’s for opening day. The duo, who own Rita’s stores in Dunkirk and California, also own Sports Clips in Dunkirk. They hope to open the Solomons location Friday, Feb. 27.
Most Rita’s locations around the country open by March 1. Some locations open in February — the Dunkirk location opened Feb. 18, and the California location is open year-round.
Rita’s is a national Italian ice and custard chain that launched in 1984. The stores are popular in Maryland for their ice flavors and specialty items, and customers wait all winter for “Rita’s season” to start again. Today, there are over 600 Rita’s locations nationwide, and each of the Southern Maryland stores is a popular summer spot for locals and tourists.
Burroughs and Hanson are also no strangers to success in Calvert County. They own multiple well-known businesses and were honored at the 2025 Calvert Chamber of Commerce’s Beacon of Light event for their fundraising work and community involvement at both Rita’s and Sports Clips.
Burroughs did not immediately respond to The BayNet’s request for an interview.
