
Robert Gordon “Rob” Montgomery, 57, of Great Mills, MD, on February 4, 2026 at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington D.C.
He was born on April 26, 1968 in California to the late James “Jim” and Phyllis Montgomery.
Rob was a 19 year veteran of the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Reagan and USS Churchill; along with being stationed in Greenland, NAS Jacksonville, FL, and his last duty station at Patuxent River Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division before his honorable discharge. He began his second career with DynCorp, now Vertex Aerospace, as an inventory control specialist and was employed there at the time of his death. On February 14, 1997, he married Ruth Naomi Ishikawa in Duvall County, Florida. Rob was a free spirit and loved to be on the go. He enjoyed taking his children to New York City to watch the New Year’s Eve countdown and ball drop, going to see the Cherry Blossoms and the museums in Washington D.C., along with trips to Maine and Canada. He had an affinity for the water and loved to take cruises. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he was affectionally named Popcorn, by his oldest granddaughter Bella.
In addition to his beloved wife, Ruth, Rob is also survived by his children, Katie Montgomery (William Lemley) of Lexington Park, MD and Joshua Montgomery (Savannah) of Lexington Park, MD; his step-children, Victoria McClain (Bryan) of Leonardtown, MD and Matthew Pomeroy of California, MD; grandchildren: Isabella “Bella” Hoffman, Jamison Ragan, Adalyn Lemley and Harrison Montgomery; step-grandchildren Christopher Harrington (Cailyn), along with extended family and friends.
Family will receive friends for Rob’s Life Celebration on Thursday, February 19, 2026 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., with a Funeral Service celebrated by Pastor Walt Nilsson at 5:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 23075 Town Creek Drive, Lexington Park, MD 20650. Interment will be held at a later date at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD.
