Southern Maryland – The Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission (SMADC) is seeking sites, stories and more from around the region (Calvert, Charles, Prince George’s and St. Mary’s counties) that have significant historic connections to horses.

SMADC is looking for information and sites to include in Southern Maryland’s first ever Historic Horse Trail, a self-guided ‘driving’ trail highlighting the historic role of horses in Southern Maryland’s culture and heritage, such as horse-drawn carriages, the working horse in farming and transportation, recreational riding, fox hunting, thoroughbred racing, jousting and any other horse-related activity.

Southern Marylandโ€™s Historic Horse Trail will be showcased in a printed guide book and website. In addition to sites along the Trail, the guide and website will feature tidbits, stories, anecdotes, photos and memorabilia that enhance the Trail visitor’s appreciation of horses in the region’s history. Everyone is invited to submit information and materials they are willing to share. All submissions must be received by February 26, 2016

For full submission criteria and application details, visit www.SMADC.comย and click on So. Md. Historic Horse Trail. For questions contact SMADC: Susan McQuilkin at 301-274-1922, ext. 1, or email smcquilkin@smadc.com.
