You may be eligible for a free septic system upgrade through a grant from the Bay Restoration Fund (BRF). The Charles County Department of Health has upgraded over 100 septic systems with nitrogen removing Best Available Technology (BAT) through the State’s BRF Septic System Grant Program. This fund finances septic system upgrades and connections to public sewer systems for Maryland residents and reduce the nitrogen load to the Chesapeake Bay. This strategy is part of the ongoing effort toward meeting the Environmental Protection Agency’s mandate to reduce nitrogen pollution discharged into waterways.
The BRF Septic System Grant Program in Charles County is administered through the Charles County Health Department, Environmental Health Services.
