
LANDOVER, Md. – The St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s indoor track & field team had seven of their members garner Women’s Indoor Track & Field All-United East Conference honors at the inaugural United East Indoor Track & Field Championships on Monday (Feb. 26).
St. Mary’s College finished as the runner-up second in the seven-team field with 135.5 points as Penn State Behrend just edged the Seahawks for the championship title by a 1.1 margin. SMCM captured three events, set five school records, and registered 13 personal-best marks.
These are the first-ever all-conference honors for the women’s indoor track & field program since the program’s inception in 2021-22.
Senior captain Brittney Douglas (Port Republic, Md./Calvert) captured the 800m run with a time of 2:29.43 for First Team All-United East honors while running the second leg of the school record-setting second-place 4x400m relay for a Second Team All-United East award.
Sophomore Chay’La Rivers (Baltimore, Md./Reach! Partnership) ran a school record and personal-best time of 10.09 to win the 60m hurdles and garner First Team All-United East honors. Rivers surpassed her own school record of 10.79 from a month ago.
Senior captain Betsy Robey (Kensington, Md./Stone Ridge) claimed first place in the 5000m run with a 20:47.07 for her First Team All-United East award.
First-year Avery Arizzi (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) gained a Second Team All-United East award by placing second in the 400m dash with a school and personal record time of 1:02.72, shaving off 0.20 seconds from her month-old school record of 1:02.92. Arizzi notched another Second Team honor by anchoring the school record-setting second-place 4x400m relay.
Junior Elise Kinyanjui (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) picked up two all-conference honors on Monday. Kinyanjui earned a Second Team award by running the third leg of the school record-setting second-place 4x400m relay. She then notched a Third Team All-United East award with her third-place finish in the high jump.
Sophomore Savannah Owens (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) was the lead-off runner on the school record-setting second-place 4x400m relay to collect her Second Team All-United East award.
First-year Jillian Zukley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) claimed a silver medal in the shot put with a throw of 11.62m for her Second Team All-United East honor.
