Ryan Langerhans delivered a go-ahead, two-run single in the bottom of the 8th inning to give the Sugar Land Skeeters a dramatic 6-5 victory over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. The Crabs have now lost three consecutive one-run contests and have lost their third road series out of four.
Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the 8th, the Skeeters loaded the bases with two outs against Crabs reliever Erik Hamren (1-3). Ryan Langerhans singled up the middle for his second hit of the game to plate Travis Scott and Taylor Harbin and give Sugar Land the lead back. It’s the fourth time this season that the Blue Crabs have lost a lead that they’ve carried after seven innings.
Sugar Land stormed out of the gates with four runs in the bottom of the 1st against starter Brian Baker. Brian Barton hit a sacrifice fly for the first run and Harbin and Adam Godwin came up with RBI hits to put the Skeeters up 4-0.
Southern Maryland got three runs back in the top of the 3rd. Jermaine Mitchell and C.J. Ziegler hit back-to-back RBI singles and Jake Opitz brought in a run with a groundout to cut the deficit to a run.
The Blue Crabs snatched the lead in the 4th inning with two runs. Jonny Kaplan tied the game with an RBI single and Mitchell’s RBI fielder’s choice gave Southern Maryland their first lead of the day.
