SOLOMONS, Md. – For the Fourth of July this year, the Calvert County Government and many local area businesses are raising money to give the community of Solomons the thrill of a lifetime to celebrate Independence Day.
The display will take place on Thursday, July 4. If a rain date is needed, that will be communicated.
The American flag-raising ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. at the Watermen’s Memorial to start the day. There will be a live patriotic concert and reenactors. The Calvert Marine Museum will also be open during normal business hours for visitors. The William B. Tennyson will also be taking people out that night to watch the fireworks.
Kyle Webber, the fireworks committee chair for the Solomon’s Business Association, is organizing the event once again and is looking for volunteers who have a love for all things Solomons.
“Every year it’s a challenge to fund the event,” Webber told The BayNet. “The volunteers that set up the barge and supply the fireworks are doing this at cost.”
Webber said that for such a beautiful community, the local citizens who give small and large donations mean a lot.
“Without their help, the fireworks display would be impossible,” Webber said.
Vincent and Alysha DiGiorgio, President and Vice President of Digital Lightning, LLC of Gaithersburg, have supplied the display for many, many years and enjoy doing so.
Ward’s Marine, Inc. is a local construction company owned by Jamie Ward of Solomons. The company has designed the barge for the display for years.

Sure do pray that this year they don’t put up those darn loud speakers along the length of the entire boardwalk this time as they have in the past. Music blaring all day, and, even during the fireworks. Can’t hear much of anything since it’s always too loud and especially during the fireworks which completely distracts from the somberness of the fireworks display. Those speakers completely ruin what should be a good and enjoyable day, and evening.
