LA PLATA, Md. — The 14th Annual Southern Maryland Hiring Event will take place Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the College of Southern Maryland’s La Plata Campus. Organized by the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland (TCCSMD) in partnership with the College of Southern Maryland and the Rural Maryland Council, the regional workforce event is expected to draw hundreds of job seekers from Charles, Calvert and St. Mary’s counties.
The hiring event comes at a pivotal time as ongoing federal workforce layoffs continue to affect local families. With more than 65 employers and 25 community resource partners already confirmed, the event offers a critical opportunity for Southern Maryland residents seeking employment or career transitions.
Attendees can expect to explore job openings in healthcare, education, public safety, skilled trades, government contracting and more. The event also offers support services for résumé development, job readiness and community assistance. Free professional headshots will be available on-site, provided by Tara Kenji Photography.
“Each year, this event grows in reach and impact. Our team is passionate about bridging the gap between employers and job seekers, and we’re thrilled to see the momentum building so early,” said Yvette Turner, lead business engagement specialist at TCCSMD. “We’ve designed the experience to be innovative, inclusive and responsive to the needs of both businesses and our community. It’s not just about jobs—it’s about creating futures.”
To enhance the job search experience, a mobile app called Yapp has been introduced to help job seekers connect directly with employers, access real-time resources and streamline communication. Users are encouraged to upload their résumés in advance through the app, where submissions will be sorted by industry and shared with participating employers ahead of the event.
The Southern Maryland Hiring Event has historically drawn between 800 and 1,200 job seekers annually, and 2025 registration numbers are already on pace to exceed prior attendance. Organizers encourage both job seekers and employers to register early.
