The prolonged cold increases the risk of hypothermia and frostbite, especially for anyone spending extended time outdoors. Residents are urged to dress in layers, limit time outside, and bring pets indoors whenever possible. Outdoor animals should have warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.

Officials also remind residents to check on vulnerable neighbors and ensure pipes are protected from freezing as temperatures remain well below normal.
