PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A 21-year-old man from Old Town, Maine, is facing firearm charges in Calvert County after a deputy discovered a loaded, unregistered handgun in his vehicle during a traffic stop for speeding early Monday morning.
The incident occurred on July 28, 2025, at approximately 6:10 a.m. on Maryland Route 4 near Industry Lane. A Calvert County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a black Nissan Maxima with a Maine vanity license plate reading “RUNNIT” for driving 50 mph in a 45 mph zone.
According to the statement of probable cause, as the vehicle was pulling over, a passenger began making “aggressive furtive movements” toward the floorboard. The driver, identified as Chandler B. Shaw, and his passenger both consented to a search of the vehicle.
During the search, the deputy located a firearm mag well cover on the rear floorboard. When asked again if there were any firearms in the car, Shaw admitted that a handgun his mother had purchased for him was in the glove box.
Authorities recovered a silver and black .22-caliber Sig Sauer P226 pistol from the glove box, which contained a magazine loaded with 16 rounds. A registration check by the Calvert County Control Center revealed the firearm had no registered owner and was not reported stolen.
Shaw was arrested and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center, while his passenger was released from the scene. At the detention center, Shaw waived his Miranda rights and told deputies his mother had purchased the firearm for him last year and he was unaware it needed to be registered. He also stated he does not possess a concealed carry permit in any state.
Shaw has been charged with handgun in vehicle and loaded handgun in vehicle. Under Maryland law, transporting a handgun in a vehicle without a permit is a misdemeanor that can carry a penalty of up to three years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to $2,500 for a first offense.
Court records show Shaw was released on his own recognizance on the day of his arrest. A trial is scheduled for Aug. 27, 2025, in Calvert District Court.

Figure this out: Maine does not require a carry permit, and it’s totally run by dems. This kid should have checked that out before carrying across state lines.
he’s probably a Democrat, they don’t care about the law
He’s not a “ kid” and likely going to find that out when he goes to court.
If yall are gonna pull someone for 50 in a 45 you might as well pull all of Calvert county over. Thats a stretch and you know it. Gun or not, that’s crazy. I’ve seen people fly on that road and they don’t get pulled over.
50 in a 45…. Wow Calvert cops having nothing to do a 6am huh. They wouldn’t be cops if they were smart.
Maybe Maine should require a carry permit!
He will get off, no crimes were committed
Pulled over for doing 50 in a 45?
There’s no probable cause here, it will be tossed right out
