St. Mary's Board Of Education Approves $7.3 Million For Partial Roof Replacement At Great Mills High School

LEONARDTOWN, Md. – During their February 7, 2024, meeting, the St. Mary’s County Board of Education unanimously approved a contract for $7,263,990.00 to provide construction services and $635,000.00 for a construction contingency to Cole Roofing Company for the Partial Roof Replacement Phase II at Great Mills High School.

According to the meeting documents, The Capital Improvements Program includes funding for the partial roof replacement of a 26-year-old existing built-up roof at Great Mills High School. The work will be completed during the summers of 2024, 2025, and 2026.

The project includes the replacement of 125,652 s.f. of the existing bituminous roof with a 3-ply asphalt and fiberglass built-up membrane plus a cap sheet with bright reflective roofing granules. Two skylights will also be added to the roof in sections L and N.

The Board of Education also unanimously approved three contracts in the total amount of $683,000.00 to provide construction services, and $150,000.00 for a contingency to W.L. Gary Company, Inc. for the Chiller Replacements at three elementary schools: 1) Benjamin Banneker Elementary School for $256,000.00, 2) Lexington Park Elementary School for $229,000.00, and 3) White Marsh Elementary School for $198,000.00.

The current air-cooled chillers are from 2002 and 2003. They have a life expectancy of 15 to 20 years.

Lastly, the Board unanimously approved two contracts to Douron Inc. in the amounts of $310,022.16 for Town Creek Elementary School and $99,806.94 for White Marsh Elementary School, totaling $409,829.10, and $50,000.00 contingency to provide, deliver, and install classroom and administrative office furnishings.

According to the meeting docs, existing furniture at Town Creek and White Marsh is scheduled for replacement due to furniture being damaged, excessively worn, mismatched, missing hardware, and inappropriate age size. The furniture replacement will be scheduled to take place during the unoccupied Spring and Summer of 2024.
