The St. Mary’s Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) had the honor of hosting a visiting British cadet during a recent squadron meeting.

British Air Training Corps (ATC) Cadet Cory Williams, son of US Air Force Master Sergeant Tony Williams, spent a busy evening with the St. Mary’s squadron. His evening began with an orientation flight in the squadron’s Cessna 182 aircraft.

With CAP 1st Lt Louis Lucarelli at the controls, Cory and his Dad took off from the St. Mary’s Regional Airport, spending an hour flying over the local area. After returning, Cadet Williams delivered a briefing about the ATC to the CAP cadets, followed by a question and answer session.

The syllabus for ATC cadets covers many of the same program components found in the Civil Air Patrol, including aerospace education, emergency services, and community service.

Williams joined the Air Training Corps in April 2006. He is a member of the 1483 Brentwood Squadron, one of the squadrons of the Essex wing. Cadet Williams is from Brentwood-Essex, England, and is a 9th year student, the equivalent of an eighth grader here in the US. He has attended training encampments, has 2.0 hours of flight time in his logbook, and has participated in various community service projects.

To mark his visit with the St. Mary’s Composite Squadron, he was presented a Maryland CAP Wing gold coin by Maryland CAP Group 3 commander Lt Col Wes LaPre, a pair of squadron patches by Deputy Commander of Cadets 1st Lt David Webster, and a Maryland CAP Wing polo shirt on behalf of the Maryland Wing commander, by former Maryland Wing commander Col Larry Trick.
