LEONARDTOWN, Md. – During their June 11, 2024, meeting, the St. Mary’s County Board of County Commissioners celebrated the county’s spring state champions for the year 2024.

Proclamations were handed out to the Leonardtown High School Softball and baseball teams for winning their respective Class 4A State Championships. Leonardtown’s Softball team defeated Eleanor Roosevelt High School from Greenbelt in an astounding 14-0 performance to secure the title at the University of Maryland on May 25.

Leonardtown’s Baseball team claimed the title by defeating Walt Whitman High School from Bethesda, MD, 2-0 at Regency Furniture Stadium the previous night.

A commendation was also awarded to Kayla Rorie from Great Mills High School who was named a 2024 State Champion in the 100 hurdles (14.25) as part of Great Mill’s Track & Field team. Rorie competed alongside many other great student-athletes across Southern Maryland at the 4A/3A State Track & Field meet on May 23 at the Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex.
