LEONARDTOWN, Md. — On Dec. 17, 2024, the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County unanimously approved renovations for the 911 Center in St. Mary’s County. The renovation will increase the number of consoles from nine to 11, which, in turn, will increase the number of emergency operators and the number of calls the center can field at any given time. It has been 12 years since the last notable renovation.

The installation of the consoles and related equipment is expected to cost about $451,000, which will be covered by the State of Maryland. Limited construction is projected to cost about $207,000, which will be funded by St. Mary’s County.

In addition to its role as the 911 Center, the St. Mary’s County Department of Emergency Services participated in this year’s Christmas festivities by providing live updates on the location of Santa and his sleigh on Christmas Eve. For those interested in tuning in next year, the department will broadcast through St. Mary’s Alpha 1 dispatch channel, as it has done for many years.
