LEONARDTOWN, Md. — The countdown is on for one of Southern Maryland’s most beloved springtime traditions. Families from across the region are set to gather Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds for the 42nd annual Easter Festival, a community staple that promises a day packed with festive fun, rain or shine.
Running from 10:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., the event caters to children up to age 12 with egg hunts, a visit from the Easter Bunny and Mrs. Cottontail, and live entertainment. Young attendees can enjoy free arts and crafts, face painting, and a host of activities designed to make the day unforgettable. Local vendors will showcase an array of goods and services, while food trucks will offer a variety of treats, giving attendees a chance to support area businesses while celebrating the holiday.

For a $7 fee, children can participate in the egg hunt, visit with the Easter Bunny, and engage in a variety of bunny-approved activities. Organizers say the festival has long been a way for the community to come together, creating a vibrant atmosphere where families can enjoy the simple joys of spring.
Organized by St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks, the festival serves a greater purpose beyond its Easter-themed excitement. Proceeds, along with funds raised from the department’s annual golf tournament, go toward the Recreation & Parks Scholarship Program. The initiative provides financial assistance to qualifying individuals, covering up to 50% of activity registration fees.

Advanced tickets will be available online beginning March 10, and can also be purchased in person at the Recreation & Parks main office in Leonardtown during weekday business hours. Those interested in becoming vendors or sponsors can apply now, with a range of sponsorship opportunities offering promotional benefits, including recognition in event marketing and social media outreach.

Vendor and sponsorship details are accessible via the county’s website, with applications available at www.stmaryscountymd.gov/docs/eastervendor.pdf and www.stmaryscountymd.gov/docs/eastersponsor.pdf.

Whether for the thrill of the hunt, the joy of community spirit, or simply the chance to welcome spring in style, families across Southern Maryland are ready to hop into the fun.
