Our dear brother, Stanley Anthony Konopka, born on April 1, 1959, in Avenue, MD, went to be with our Lord much too soon on January 28, 2025, just 32 days before his 66th birthday. He is survived by his siblings, Mary Otto, Henry Konopka, and Tadzio Konopka. Stanley joins his loving mother, Janina, and father, Stanislaws Konopka.
Stanley had a strong Catholic faith and was a lifelong member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, who loved singing with the church choir and was a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus, who were all partners in togetherness. He valued the simple, beautiful moment spent with his family and loving friends.
I, Mary, his sister, remember when Stanley was preparing for boot camp for the Air Force, he asked me and my brothers, Henry and Teddy, if we wanted to join him in training running for five miles. So, we got together at Hempstead Lake State Park and ran and ran and ran some more until we were all exhausted and fell to the ground. I remember that I wasn’t prepared for such a long haul and thought I did really well afterwards. Well, that evening my body was numb and the next morning I couldn’t walk!!! Stanley had an extraordinary way of doing things his way and believed he was always right. He will be always missed and remembered during the holidays and birthdays when we spent time together.
He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was a Law Enforcement Specialist for four years and four months, and later was employed by the government as a private contractor. He loved travelling the world while in the military.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 10, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM in St. Aloysius Gonzaga Roman Catholic Church, Leonardtown, MD, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM with Father David Beaubien officiating. Interment will follow at 1:45 PM at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.
