WALDORF, Md. — A house fire that led to a partial roof collapse in Waldorf on Thursday was caused by a malfunction near the home’s furnace, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The fire, determined to be accidental, broke out around 4 p.m. on March 20, 2025, in the attic of the home located at 2345 Progress Court in the White Oak neighborhood. It caused an estimated $300,000 in structural damage and $50,000 in damage to contents.
No injuries were reported, though the home was deemed uninhabitable following the fire.
Smoke alarms were present and activated properly. The Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department responded with help from surrounding departments, bringing a total of 48 firefighters to the scene. The fire was under control in about 30 minutes, though crews faced heavy smoke and flames throughout the attic.
