Plant a tree for the 2017 Spring season – be a ‘Tree hugger’

State of Marylandย -Tired of mowing your lawn? Consider converting part of your grasslands to woodlands with trees from the John S. Ayton State Forest Tree Nursery, managed by the State Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

New this year are Beautyberry Shrub seedlings โ€“ Maryland native plants โ€“ which beautify landscapes and improve habitat, as well as authentic Wye Oak seedlings.ย All seedlings purchased from the DNR shall be planted for conservation, lumber and/or cut Christmas tree purposes. Plantings shall be protected as far as possible from fire, grazing and trespass.

Trees may not be offered for sale with roots attached for removal from the land as live or ornamental trees.

The nursery is now accepting seedling orders for large plantings on private lands and offers over 50 conifer and deciduous species, from Douglas Fir to River Birch, to meet a variety of aesthetic preferences and conservation needs, be it buffer plantings, soil protection, watershed protection, wildlife habitat or windbreak protection.

A minimum order of 25 seedlings per species is required. Supplies are limited so hurry and visit www.nursey.dnr.mayland.gov for more details and to take a look at the selection of trees, etc.
