Bel-Alton, MD – On Feb. 26 at about 11:25 p.m. a citizen driving by discovered a car belonging to Derrick Smith in flames.
The Bel-Alton Volunteer Fire Department and Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to Mudd Road and Bel-Alton Newtowne Road and discovered the car in a field with flames rising.
The fire allegedly began inside the vehicle and it took four firefighters about five minutes to control the fire. Damage is estimated at $15,000.
Investigation revealed that the car belonging to smith had been reported as stolen. This crime is being investigated.
