LA PLATA, Md. — Two people have been charged in connection with an alleged fraud and theft scheme involving unauthorized bank and electronic payroll transactions in Charles County, according to court records.
Ward L. Tucker, 66, of Glen Dale, and Brittany Moten, 32, of Upper Marlboro, are each charged with fraud involving identity theft, conspiracy to commit fraud, theft of $1,500 to under $25,000, and conspiracy to commit theft.
The charges stem from alleged activity reported between Sept. 5 and Dec. 19, 2025, at a residence in Bryans Road.
According to statements of charges filed in District Court, the complainant reported that unauthorized wire transfers and electronic payroll transactions were conducted using his bank account and personal identifying information without consent. The charging documents allege the activity involved electronic transactions processed through Paychex and PayPal, and that the transactions continued after business relations had ended.
Court records allege Tucker knowingly possessed and used the complainant’s personal identifying information to obtain U.S. currency valued at more than $1,500 but less than $25,000. The documents further allege Moten conspired with Tucker by opening and using electronic accounts tied to the complainant’s bank information as part of the alleged scheme.
Both Tucker and Moten were issued criminal summonses requiring them to appear in Charles County District Court for preliminary inquiries scheduled for Feb. 9, 2026.
