
HUGHESVILLE, Md. — The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a vehicle fire in Hughesville that has been determined to be incendiary in nature.
At approximately 7:30 a.m. on February 27, 2026, authorities responded to the 13000 block of Burnt Store Road in Charles County for a reported vehicle fire. The incident was discovered by the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.
The fire involved a 2015 Nissan Altima. No injuries were reported.
Investigators determined the area of origin to be the vehicle’s gas fill tube. The preliminary cause was ruled incendiary after combustible materials were ignited inside the gas fill tube.
Officials also reported that the vehicle had been reported stolen earlier this month.
Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $11,000.
