Shortly before 7:30 a.m. Bay District Volunteer Firefighters were dispatched to a flooding condition at a unit in Abberly Crest Apartments on Briar Patch Lane, called in by an occupant with water coming through the ceiling.
Responders quickly learned an activated fire sprinkler in Apt. 308 was causing water to leak into apartments below. Firefighters reportedly found 3-4 inches of water on the floor when they entered the apartment.
The occupant told firefighters he was cooking on the stove and went outside to dump trash. Oil in the pan apparently caught fire and was put out by the sprinkler.
Fire crews deployed water vacuums and worked at shutting the sprinkler supply down. Apartments below on the second and first floor were notified to cover up items.
