Marbury, MD— โDoes your county touch another state?โ The question was asked by one of Michael Kennedyโs students during a digital exchange Skype lesson.
Fourth-grade students at Gale-Bailey Elementary School learned about the geography of another county in Maryland as a part of their social studies curriculum.ย
Kennedyโs and Sara Capraโs students first studied facts about Charles County, then created questions to ask students from another county in order to guess where the students were located.ย
Each class asked three yes/no questions to ask the students through Skype. The questions were related to location, economy and demographics. The classes were then asked to answer the questions and come up with two more deductive questions. They came up with alternate questions based on responses to ask for the following week during the second Skype session.ย
Each class received answers to and discussed the questions before calling the other class back with the answer. The session was ended with the answer. The groups then shared different researched aspects of information about Charles County with their partner county through a presentation.ย Groups included geography, economics, culture, history and current events.ย
During the final week of the program, the students shared things they enjoyed about the Charles County Public Schools Digital Exchange Skype experience.
