Leonardtown, MD – The deadline for submitting recipes to the 2018 Oyster Cook-off which is part of the US Oyster Festival in St. Mary’s County held at the St. Mary’s County fairgrounds in Leonardtown will be July 31. Cook-off contestants will be notified by August 31. The date for this year’s Cook-off is Saturday, October 20. For rules and for the submission form you may contact usoysterfestival@gmail.com.
Lawnmower Races
The 14th Annual Lawnmower Races will be held at Bowles Farm Friday and Saturday, August 3 and 4. On Friday, gates open at 5 p.m. followed by the Trial Runs at 6 p.m. and Racing at 7 p.m. On Saturday, gates open at 2 p.m. with the Trial Runs beginning at 5 p.m. and Racing at 6 p.m. Admission is $10.
GOP news
The Republican Women of St. Mary’s Club met Monday, July 23 with Guest Speaker Del. Jerry Clark who is a candidate for MD District 29C. The next regularly scheduled meeting for the Club will be Monday, September 24. Club President is Sharon Brown.
In attendance were candidates Del. Deb Rey from District 29B, Jack Bailey who is candidate for the Maryland Senate from District 29, and Debbie Mills Burch who is a candidate for Clerk of the Circuit Court. Among the other guests were Jaymi Sterling from Richard Fritz’s office, and St. Mary’s County School Board member Jim Davis.
