OWINGS, Md. — A 47-year-old man is facing multiple assault charges after leading deputies on a high-speed chase through Calvert County, reaching speeds of up to 100 mph before being taken into custody.
According to court documents, on Feb. 26, 2025, at approximately 10:19 p.m., a Calvert County sheriff’s deputy conducting traffic enforcement on Route 2 observed a silver Nissan Maxima speeding at 70 mph in a 40 mph zone. Upon attempting a traffic stop, the vehicle fled, making erratic turns and violating multiple traffic laws in an attempt to evade law enforcement.
The suspect, later identified as Tarvaris Tony Reid of Owings, led deputies on a prolonged chase that took them through residential neighborhoods and commercial areas. According to police reports, Reid maneuvered through Pinnacle Court, Skinners Turn Road, and Smithbrook Court—at times doubling back and attempting to block deputies with sudden turns.
The chase escalated as the suspect drove onto Mount Harmony Elementary School’s property, where deputies attempted to box him in, but Reid continued to evade capture, even driving over a curb and through the grass. After multiple failed attempts to deploy stop sticks, Reid reportedly ran multiple red lights and reached speeds of 100 mph on Route 4.
Deputies ultimately performed a PIT maneuver on Skinners Turn Road, causing the Maxima’s rear bumper to detach. The chase came to an end after Reid allegedly rammed into two patrol vehicles before deputies successfully blocked his car from further movement.
Following his arrest, deputies reported that Reid’s eyes were bloodshot, glossy and watery, and they detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from him. During questioning, Reid allegedly boasted about outmaneuvering deputies, stating, “I was two cars ahead of you,” and “I was pulling the E-brake on a front-wheel-drive car.”
Medical personnel at Calvert Medical Health Center evaluated Reid, during which he reportedly declined to submit to a chemical or blood test, instead stating that he only wanted to take a urine test.
Reid was later transported to the Calvert County Detention Center, where he was booked on multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree assault, which carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison, and two counts of second-degree assault, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $2,500 fine.
Following his arrest, Reid was held without bond pending a court hearing. Court records show that Judge Michelle R. Saunders presided over his Feb. 28 bail review hearing, where the decision was made to continue holding him without bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 28, 2025 in Calvert County District Court.
