
Terry Ann Nelson of Avenue, MD, passed away on February 18, 2026, at the age of 62. She was born on February 4, 1964, in Leonardtown, MD. to the late Anne Nellie Nelson and William Albert “Porkey” Nelson, Jr. She was a loving daughter to her parents.
Terry was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, MD, and loved being on the water, especially the Potomac River. Her favorite hobbies were boating, fishing, crabbing, and swimming. She also loved spending time with her family, grandkids, and close friends.
Terry graduated from Chopticon High School in 1982 and began her career in 1984 at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C. She worked as a Staff Assistant with the Office of Postsecondary Education. In 2002, she joined the Office of Indian Education, and in 2019, she had the pleasure of working with the State and Grantee Relations. She ended her career in March 2025 with 40 years of federal service.
Terry is survived by her two children, Justin Robert Quade, and Travis Gordon Quade; Three grandchildren, Allison, Dhillon, and Skylar. She is also survived by her brother, William Albert Nelson III, of Colton’s Point, MD, and her lifetime partner, Robert Gordon “Bobby” Quade, of Chaptico, MD. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Keith Nelson.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with prayers recited at 7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Angles Catholic Church, Avenue, MD. on March 13, 2026, at 10:00 AM led by Rev. James Oberle officiating. Interment will be held at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.
