ย Air Force Ensemble to Kick Off Spring Season
The College of Southern Maryland will host the Airmen of Note, theย
premier jazz ensemble of the United States Air Force, at 8 p.m., Jan. 25ย
in the Fine Arts Center, La Plata Campus.
โWe are thrilled to have this talented group of musicians return toย
our theater,โ said CSMโs Coordinator of Music Dr. Stephen Johnson.ย
โThis is a great way to kick off an exciting spring season of musicย
in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Fine Arts Center.โ
The โNoteโ features 18 jazz musicians who have earned anย
international reputation as one of the finest and most versatile bigย
bands in the world.ย
In their more than 60 years of existence, the Airmen of Note haveย
performed throughout the United States and for audiences in Europe andย
Asia. They have collaborated with jazz legends such as Dizzy Gillespie,ย
Joe Williams, Sarah Vaughan and Nancy Wilson in the recording studio asย
well as in performances.
The Glenn Miller sound has remained a central ingredient in theย
bandโs musical heritage. However, over the years the โNoteโ hasย
adopted a more contemporary sound. Current arranger Master Sgt. Alanย
Baylock helps maintain a commitment to the tradition of the group withย
an eye toward innovative pieces that fit the groupโs style andย
ability.
Admission to this event is free, although reservations are stronglyย
encouraged to ensure seating. For information, contact the Box Office atย
