
PORT TOBACCO, Md. — After a seasonal closure, Thomas Stone National Historic Site officially reopened on Saturday, April 19, 2025. The site will now welcome visitors on weekends, operating Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Guided tours of Haberdeventure, the historic home of Thomas Stone, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, will be offered at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day.
Visitors can also explore four miles of hiking trails that wind through woodlands and marshlands, passing by a variety of historic structures throughout the grounds.
At the visitor center, National Park Passport collectors can obtain multiple stamp imprints, including the Southern Maryland National Heritage Area stamp.

Join the Junior Ranger program! Children and families can pick up a free activity book inside the visitor center to begin earning their Junior Ranger badge. Activities vary by age group, and once completed, participants can review their booklets with a ranger to take the Junior Ranger pledge and receive an official badge.

In addition, virtual Junior Ranger opportunities are available. Participants can complete online activities such as “Scouting with Colonel Stone” and “Riddle Me This,” then download a virtual Junior Ranger badge.
