Javon L. Dickens

Leonardtown, MD— On Feb.17, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputy James Bare responded to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center in regards to discovery of contraband.ย

When Bare arrived on the scene, he was informed, “tobacco wrapped in toilet paper was found on the floor underneath the door to indoor recreation,” according to charging documents.ย

Bare also learned that inmates from the E-1 Pod were in the indoor recreation center during the time the property was found for an unscheduled search.ย

According to charging documents, “Security footage from that time was reviewed which showed defendant Javon L. Dickens, 24, of Piney Point dropped a white bundle onto the floor and then used his foot in an attempt to conceal in under the door.”ย

Bare made contact with Dickens, who advised, “he had no idea what I (Bare) was talking about, and he never had any tobacco, Dickens was insistent that cameras never caught him dropping anything on the ground,” according to charging documents.ย

Dickens was charged with possession of contraband in a place of confinement. Dickens at this time does not have a scheduled court date. Dickens faces a maximum jail sentence of three years and/or a maximum fine of $1,000.ย
