Chesapeake Beach is aglow and prior to the start of the Thursday, Dec. 19 town council meeting, town officials handed out prizes to residents and business owners whose brightly-lighted displays were judged the best.

โ€œDoesnโ€™t the town look beautiful?โ€ Town Special Events Coordinator Connie Oโ€™Dell asked. Oโ€™Dell announced approximately $2,500 worth of prizes were donated to award to the four category winners and the entrant receiving the distinction of being named The Brightest Beacon on the Bay.

The winner of the 2013 Brightest Beacon on the Bay was the Sondberg family of Cardinal Way, whose townhome was deemed tops by the team of judges.ย

In the โ€œHouseโ€ category, first place was awarded to the Fosters of Cannoncade Court, second place went to the Mozingos of 27th Street and the third-place award was given to the Jacobs of Richfield Lane.

In the โ€œTownhouseโ€ category, the first-place winner was the Zlotorzynskis of Delores Court and second place was awarded to the Richards of 17th Street.

In the โ€œBusinessโ€ category, first place was awarded to Traderโ€™s Seafood Steak and Ale; the second-place winner was Chesapeake Pharmacy and third place went to Lucky Duck Pet Boutique.

Chesapeake Beach also has a category for boats. However, Oโ€™Dell noted none of the vessels moored in the harbor was decorated. A decorated boat was found in the yard of a residence, so town officials decided to commend the ownersโ€”the Longs of Middle Ground Courtโ€”with a prize package for the best-decorated โ€œyard boat.โ€ ย

Honorable mention was given to Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa Complex and the neighborhood of Cannoncade Court.

Oโ€™Dell announced town officials would be posting yard signs on the winning properties and five busloads of people would be touring the town that Friday evening.

The town will keep its Christmas lights up and lit until Jan. 3.
