SOLOMONS, Md. – Earlier this morning, authorities responded to a dreadful incident at the Thomas Johnson Bridge that resulted in the loss of life.
Police were alerted at 1:09 a.m. of an abandoned vehicle at the top of the bridge, left running and unattended. Shortly after, a coordinated effort ensued with firefighters, emergency medical services, Maryland State Police Aviation, and Rescue Dive Teams trying to locate the individual.
At around 2 a.m, Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 7 successfully located the victim, leading to a rescue operation by firefighters aboard fireboat Zodiak 7. The victim received CPR while being transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital but later succumbed to their injuries.

It’s just going to increase if there isn’t anything installed (and soon) to keep anyone from jumping. It’s just right there, large as life beckoning those with hearts so low to their death. It’s always going to be an option until it isn’t anymore.
So in other words tear down the bridge? Because that’s literally the only thing that will stop it
The bridge is deteriorating and in need of replacing. Why waste 2-5 million to install nets on a bridge that is falling apart?
That bridge isn’t falling apart lol
Have you ever looked up from underneath? Notice the steel wraps around the supports? There is a reason they shut it down a few decades ago- and still haven’t replaced it.
Anyone determined to end their life, even with netting, will just crawl over the netting to fall over the side of it.
Thanks for the pro tip!
With all the technology we have from cameras to motion sensors we could have a crisis intervention team there in no time.
There are crisis hotline phones at the top of the bridge.

When seconds count…help is only minutes away.
How many deaths is it going to take? Enough is ENOUGH!
What do you propose? The only thing that will stop it is tearing the bridge down
Sad
You’re right, enough is enough! When are people going to accept there will be challenges in their life they need to work through? Life is hard and they only hurt the loved ones around them when they kill themselves. Perhaps basic problem solving skills and personal accountability should be brought back into the education system so life isn’t so hard?
Yeah because it’s that easy for someone suffering from mental health issues to feel the pain they’d cause loved one. Trust and believe that has all been thought about if not first before thinking of themself! It’s easy for PEOPLE LIKE YOU to say “people need to learn to work through” daily challenges. Don’t think for a second that person woke up that day on a whim and thought to one self “I think I’ll jump off a bridge today!” This poor person no doubt suffered DAILY, both in silence and with help!
Go monitor the bridge then. I mean really what can you do? Take the bridge down!?! Let’s be honest here..if someone has their mind made up that they are going to commit suicide, if the bridge isn’t available they will do it another way. Prayers for the family of the one who decided life was too hard. Mental health is very important
If they would only take mental health seriously and try to help these people there needs to be more options out there because depression is real these counties need to take mental health more seriously and God bless all those who feel they need to end their lives
