motor vehicle accident in southern maryland

NEWBURG, Md. — Two people were hospitalized Thursday morning following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Crain Highway and Budds Creek Road in Charles County.

The crash was reported around 7:58 a.m. on July 10, 2025. Callers to 911 reported that one of the vehicles was smoking. One occupant was initially believed to be trapped inside.

Fire and EMS crews from multiple stations responded to the scene. While units prepared for a vehicle extrication, responders determined upon arrival that no one was trapped. EMS evaluated two patients on the scene.

A man in his 20s was transported to UM Capital Region Medical Center in serious but non-life-threatening condition. A woman in her 20s was taken to UM Charles Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
