UPDATE – Jan. 28th, 12:10 p.m.

Charles County Sheriff’s Office – On January 27 at 3:48 p.m., officers responded to the 3300 block of Patapsco Place in Waldorf for the report of an accidental shooting.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, a two-year-old boy, obtained his father’s unsecured handgun while his father was asleep and accidentally shot himself in the leg. The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Det. J. Elliott is investigating.


Waldorf, MD –ย At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Jan. 27th, The Charles County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding aย gunshot wound.

According to a Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson,ย aย man had fallen asleep in his home, woke up toย sounds ofย aย gunshot, and discovered his two-year-old son suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his upper leg.

The child was transported to an area trauma center to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

TheBayNet spoke to Juliette Robinson, who has lived in Adams Crossing for eight months. Robinson lives two units from where the accidental shooting occurred. “I saw the EMS members, police, and the helicopterย around 4:50 p.m., I was shocked, but I was not scared.”ย 

The investigation has led officers to believe that the man may be a security guard.

TheBayNet also made contact with another woman who wished to remain anonymous. “I heard the gunshot, but I don’t know too much due to the placement of my apartment,” she said. “I live in the back of the apartment.”ย 

The investigation is still in progress, and a decision has not yet been made regarding possible charges.

Robinson also offered a prayer and some advice, “I pray for that baby, and we need to be more careful with our firearms.”ย
