PATUXENT, Md. – On August 4, 2024, emergency services responded to a report of a jet ski floating unattended on the Patuxent River. The initial call came in at 3:49 p.m., prompting a priority 2 response.

According to the caller, the jet ski was observed floating with no one around it near the Benedict Bridge. The incident was reported by telephone to Calvert County Emergency Communications.

Responders quickly arrived on the scene to investigate the situation. Updates indicated that the jet ski had drifted from the Potomac River up the Patuxent River, near the Benedict area.

Upon arrival, emergency crews observed the jet ski and confirmed that there was no immediate sign of an operator. The search and investigation continued to ensure no one was in distress and to secure the area. 

Further details on the incident and the status of the jet ski’s operator are currently unavailable. Authorities advise boaters and visitors to exercise caution in the area while the investigation is ongoing.

    The jet ski had to of drifted from Potomac River,, and up the Chesapeake Bay,, and into the Patuxent River,, and then drift up the Patuxent River all the way to Benedict bridge!!
    That is a long way for a jet ski to drift ,,
    And boaters saw it until it got to the bridge!

  2. Just from the mouth of the Potomac to the Benedict Bridge , via Google Earth measurement is 42 miles give or take. In that distance the water ways are packed with vessels , other jetski users and numerous eyes from the shore line ..
    And a unoccupied jetski floated that far with all those out there ready to drop a call to 911 report something out of the unusual .. This story needs follow up for details.

  3. Forget the mileage, how does something ‘drift’ against the current that far? Even on a falling tide, the Patuxent River’s flow at the Johnson Bridge is more than strong enough to prevent something from drifting all the way to Benedict.
