CALVERT COUNTY, MD โ The District of Columbia Medicalย Examinerโs Office has confirmed the identity of the female victim from the March 9, 2015ย dwelling fire. Carol S. Hausmann (68) succumbed to injuries she received during a fireย inside her home located at 7650 Lake Shore Drive in Owings. Although valiant effortsย were made by local off-duty firefighters to revive her at the scene, her injuries were too
great for her to be able to survive her smoke inhalation injuries and she died at Medstarย Washington Hospital.
The 10:30 a.m. incident brought firefighters from Dunkirk, North Beach,ย Huntington, Prince Frederick, and multiple Anne Arundel County fire departments to theย scene.
The home was heavily damaged and collapsed during on-scene operations. ย Damage to structure and contents has been estimated at nearly $350,000. The cause forย the fire remains under investigation.
Update March 11:
An Owings woman who was injured during a house fire Monday, March 9 has died from her injuries. The victim’s family reported on social media that she succumbed to her injuries early Wednesday morning, March 11.
The victim has been identified as Carol Hausmann, 68. According to an obituary posted on the Lee Funeral Home web site, Hausmann died at Washington Hospital Center. She was transported to the hospital Monday after two off-duty Prince George’s County firefighters found her and performed CPR.
The house on Lake Shore Drive in Owings was totally destroyed by fire. The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office reports the blaze remains under investigation.ย

UPDATE FROM THE MARYLAND STATE FIRE MARSHAL’S OFFICE ย March 9, 2015 at 6 p.m.
Owings, MD ย – Deputy State Fire Marshals areย currently investigating the origin and cause of a morning fire at 7650 Lake Shoreย Drive in Owings.
Around 10:30 am, firefighters from Dunkirk,ย North Beach, Huntington, Prince Fredrick and several Anne Arundel Countyย departments were alerted to the fire.
The two-story, wood-framed single-family dwelling was heavily damaged, which
caused it to collapsed. A single adult female occupant was in the structure at the timeย of the fire and reported the blaze to 911.
Upon the dispatch of the fire, two local offย duty Prince Georgeโs County firemen arrived at the scene. They made entry into theย structure, discovered a female occupant and removed her from the residence. Theย two firemen began life saving efforts immediately. The victim was subsequentlyย flown to Medstar Washington Hospital where she is currently in critical condition.
The extensive damage to the structure has caused an estimated loss of $350,000,
with approximately $275,000.00 of damages in the property and an additionalย $75,000.00 worth of damages to the personal contents within the dwelling.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.

Prince George’s County Professional Fire Fighters & Paramedics Association released information on the firefighters who rendered life-saving CPR.
Around 11 am this morning retired member and union executive representative Tom Breen noticed his neighbors’ house on fire. Tom proceeded to enter the burning home and remove an unconscious occupant. Tom immediately began CPR and was assisted by off-duty Lt. CJ Smart in resuscitation efforts. Tommy and CJ’s resuscitation efforts were successful prior to patient transport.ย
Update 1:52 p.m. March 9
On March 9 at about 10:33 a.m., there was a report of a fire in house on Lake Shore Drive.
As units arrived on the scene, they found a working house fire.
Units from Dunkirk, Huntingtown, North Beach and Prince Frederick volunteer fire departments responded to the call.
It was reported by different sources that one person was having breathing problem who lived at the home and CPR was being given. The sources also said that a Maryland State Police helicopter was requested.ย The individual was flown to Washington Hospital Center.
The Fire Marshall is on the scene and plans to do an investigation when the building is safe.
At about 11:00 a.m. all firefighters were told to get out of the house.
At approximately 12:00 p.m. the units were still on the scene but had gotten the fire under control.
At 1:45 p.m. all units prepared to leave the scene.

Sources have told The Bay Net that crews are at the scene of a house fire in the Victoria Station subdivision.
