UPDATE March 4, 9 a.m.

Maryland State Fire Marshallsย haveย determined the cause of the fire to be the result of a space heater that was being used to dry materials inside a shed. The shed was situated under the attached wood deck ato the rear of the house and the fire spread to the house.

There was one reported injury to a firefighter who was treated and released on the scene for minor burns.

The owners of the home were displaced and are being assisted by friends and family.

Damage estimate is totalling $250,000.


UPDATE March 3, 4 p.m.

On Wednesday, March 3 at approximately 1:10 p.m, over 35 firefighters fromย North Beach, Dunkirk, Huntingtown, Prince Frederick and Anne Arundel Company 9ย responded to 3211 Smiths Retreat Street in Bayview Hills for a reported house fire.

Upon arrival, heavy fire could be seen coming from the single family home, firefightersย then called for a second alarm.

As firefighters made attack on the basement, first and second levels of the house, the fire wasย quickly movingย across the roof edge.ย  It reached a point that evacuation of the house was requiredย due toย heavy water supply from the ladder truck supply above.

Once the fire under control, firefighters went back in to complete fire extinguishing throughout the house.

The Maryland State Fire Marshall, American Red Cross and BGE were all requested to the scene.

There was one firefighter who received minor burns, but was treated at scene and no transport was necessary.

The fireย remains under investigation.


Firefighters in Calvert County are battling a house fireย in theย Bayview Hills in Chespeake Beach. The fire started around 1:15 p.m. on March 3.

Upon arrival, heavy fire could be seen coming from the homeย as well as through the roof.

Firefighters have called for a second alarm.

All of the residents are reported to be out of the home. Evacuation tones are sounding and firefighters are being asked to evacuate the structure.
