ST. INIGOES, Md. — A vehicle fleeing from Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) officers crashed and overturned Thursday night, injuring four passengers, authorities said.
Officers with the NRP were in St. Inigoes State Forest on November 28, 2024, at approximately 8:50 p.m. when they heard gunfire in the area, prompting them to investigate. While patrolling near Beachville Road, officers, while using sirens and lights attempted to stop a four-door sedan.
Instead of stopping, the vehicle sped away, officials said. NRP officers did not pursue the fleeing car after it left the immediate area.
Less than a mile from the attempted traffic stop, the sedan crashed and overturned. Emergency responders arrived on the scene, and the four injured passengers were airlifted to regional medical centers by Maryland State Police Aviation.
The severity of the injuries has not been disclosed. The NRP investigation into the incident remains ongoing, with no further details immediately available.
Anyone with information about the crash or the initial gunfire is encouraged to contact NRP authorities.
