DAVIDSONVILLE, Md. — Two teenagers have been charged with murder in connection with a suspicious vehicle fire that led to the discovery of human remains last month in Davidsonville. The victim has been identified as 67-year-old Edward Stephen Koza, of Annapolis, Maryland. The motive and cause of death remain under investigation.
Anne Arundel County Police responded to a report of a vehicle on fire around 9:25 p.m. on May 24, 2025, in the parking lot of a business located at 600 West Central Avenue. When emergency personnel extinguished the flames, they discovered human remains in the passenger compartment.
The case was quickly labeled suspicious. Detectives from the county’s Criminal Investigations Division and Fire & Explosives Investigations Unit launched an investigation, and the remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore.
On May 31, the medical examiner ruled the death a homicide. While the cause of death has not yet been released, police announced they had arrested two 18-year-olds — Jonah Michael Poole of Davidsonville and Kylee Alyssa Dakes of Harwood — in connection with the killing.
The pair were taken into custody at a residence on Bethel Lane in Harwood and are charged with first- and second-degree murder, assault, conspiracy to commit murder, and arson.
The police department is aware of a video circulating on social media that is alleged to be connected to this homicide investigation. Homicide detectives are in the process of attempting to authenticate this video as part of the ongoing homicide investigation.
Police are asking anyone with information to call 410-222-4731. Anonymous tips can be submitted via the Anne Arundel County Police Tip Line at 410-222-4700 or through Metro Crime Stoppers at 866-7LOCKUP or metrocrimestoppers.org.
