4:05pm – Schools proceed with student dismissals

The Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office has re-opened roads in the St. Charles area, which were affected by a barricade situation this afternoon. A suspect is in custody. Affected schools, including Maurice J. McDonough High School, Benjamin Stoddert Middle School, and Eva Turner and Mary B. Neal elementary schools, are now dismissing students for the day. Dismissal at these schools was delayed due to road closures caused by a police investigation.ย

A situation in a home off Bannister Circle caused police to block Bannister Circle to bus traffic and close St. Paulโ€™s Drive to Piney Church Road to all traffic. As a result, several Charles County public schools are in shelter-in-place and dismissal times are being delayed.

There are approximately seven buses from Maurice J. McDonough High School with stops in the affected St. Charles area that are being held at the school until roadways are re-opened. Students will arrive home later than their normal dismissal time. Parents may pick their children up at McDonough.

Mary B. Neal Elementary School is sheltering in place, which means no one is allowed to enter the school. Parents who pick their children up at the school may do so, but student walkers and bus riders will be held at the school until police re-open the roads.

Benjamin Stoddert Middle School is in shelter-in-place, meaning students are being held in the school and will not be dismissed until police re-open the roadways. This includes students who walk to and from school. Parents may pick up their children; however, only someone whose name appears on the emergency card may sign out students.

Eva Turner Elementary School is in shelter-in-place, meaning students are being held in the school and will not be dismissed until police re-open the roadways. Dismissal time is being delayed, and no bus traffic is allowed on the road at this time. Buses will resume normal routes when police re-open roads. Parents may pick their child up at the school; however, only someone whose name appears on the emergency card may sign out students.
