LEXINGTON PARK, Md. A vehicle pursuit that began at Naval Air Station Patuxent River on Sunday evening ended in a crash along Three Notch Road in Hollywood, where Navy police recovered a large quantity of drugs and the suspect was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, officials confirmed.

The incident began on July 27, 2025 when NAS Pax River security personnel observed a Ford Crown Victoria behaving suspiciously near restricted areas on base. After witnessing multiple traffic violations, base police initiated a traffic stop. The driver fled, and with approval from a shift supervisor, Naval Security Forces pursued the vehicle off the installation.

During the pursuit, the suspect reportedly drove south in the northbound lanes of Three Notch Road near California Boulevard, prompting assistance from the Maryland State Police and the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.

Navy police brought the vehicle to a stop near Airport View Drive in Hollywood by executing a tactical intervention. The suspect’s car collided with multiple NAS Pax River Police cruisers and at least one civilian vehicle during the chase.

The driver sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital. No serious injuries to law enforcement or bystanders were reported.

A search of the vehicle uncovered “a large quantity of drugs and drug paraphernalia,” according to base authorities. The NAS Patuxent River Criminal Investigation Division is leading the investigation. Officials have not released details regarding the suspect’s identity or motive.

“We’re extremely grateful for the quick action of our Naval Security Forces at NAS Patuxent River as well as those of our community partners in the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Department for the swift apprehension of this suspect,” a base spokesperson said. “Their vigilance, and dedication in swiftly apprehending this suspect, prevented injuries and made the community safer.”

Base leadership emphasized that the incident underscores their ongoing commitment to security.

“NAS Patuxent River takes the safety of its personnel, residents, and the installation at large extremely seriously. The swift action of our Naval Security Forces in this matter were the embodiment of ‘See Something, Say Something.’”

Updates will be provided as they become available.
