INDIAN HEAD, Md. — This late afternoon January 19, 2025, at approximately 5:20 p.m., Emergency crews responded to the intersection of Chicamuxen Road and Butterfly Place this afternoon after a vehicle collided with a utility pole, reportedly due to snowy conditions. The collision caused wires to go down, and responders confirmed no injuries at the scene.
As a result of the crash, Chicamuxen Road at Hanish Place has been closed in both directions, according to a notification from Charles County authorities. Motorists are advised to avoid the area while SMECO (Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative) and Verizon address the damage to the pole and repair the downed lines.
The crash resulted in telephone line disruptions, but there were no reports of arcing or sparks. Emergency crews cleared the scene within the hour, though repairs to the utility lines may take additional time. Residents in the vicinity may experience temporary service interruptions during this period.
