Vehicle Torn Apart In Violent Crash After Charles County High-Speed Pursuit

PORT TOBACCO, Md. — A high-speed chase in Charles County ended in a violent crash at about 2:16 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, when a vehicle split in half at the intersection of Rose Hill Road and Hawthorne Road.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office reported the driver, a 39-year-old man, was the only person inside the car. Despite the severe damage, he managed to free himself before firefighters and medics arrived.

Maryland State Police Trooper 7 landed nearby to transport the patient to UM Capital Region Medical Center. SMECO crews were also called to the scene due to possible utility hazards.

Deputies have not released details about the pursuit or what led to the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
