Waldorf, MD – A 2011 Dodge Durango was struck by lightning causing a fire to start in the engine compartment of the vehicle resulting in a total loss of the vehicle on Billingsley Road, in Waldorf, at approximately 7:47 a.m. Thursday, June 23, according to a press release from the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal.
The truck was on a six-foot high steel car frame when lightning struck, the report read.
The Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department responded with four firefighters and the blaze took approximately 10 minutes to extinguish.
The vehicle was a total loss. Damage was estimated at approximately $16,000.
