WALDORF, Md. — The Christmas season is upon us, and with it comes the newly named Spirit Christmas store in Waldorf, located at 3009 Waldorf Marketplace. Just a few weeks ago, this store was decked out as Spirit Halloween. But the seasons have changed, and so has the merchandise. The BayNet decided to check out Spirit Christmas to see what they have to offer, do some shopping and dive into the Christmas spirit headfirst (literally).

Christmas is known for its festive markets, thoughtful gift-giving and charitable mindset. All this to say that shopping, for better or worse, is part of what makes Christmas special — and something as small as exchanging ornaments, seeing a beautiful lawn display or listening to carols can help spread cheer.

So with that in mind, here’s what we found at Spirit Christmas and why we think it’s a great place to include on your mission to embrace the season.

Rudolph Village

The 1964 claymation classic “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” is front and center at Spirit Christmas. When you walk in, you’ll be greeted by a cute little Rudolph village. Kids were going in and out of the little decorative houses and were so excited to see the characters come to life outside a screen. It was small, but it set the vibe for the store.

Tree And Cozy Decor

The “Trim Your Tree” section had a ton to offer — garlands in every color, ornaments, tree toppers and much more. Maybe we’re behind, but this was the first time we’d seen “pop-up” trees, which came pre-lit and were in slim packaging that’s easy to store. This section also had other Christmas essentials like pillows, cookie platters, mugs and plush animals.

Blow Molds And Inflatables

No Christmas season would be complete without your yard decorations, right? Spirit Christmas had a huge selection of inflatables ranging from classic snowmen to Patrick Star. The blow molds section was much smaller and only had a few characters — but we’re hoping the store adds more as the season goes on.

Gifting

This section was much sillier than the others, with gifts ranging from comical mugs to rubber chickens to tabletop games. We can’t speak to everyone’s taste, but these kind of seemed like stocking stuffers or work Christmas-party type gifts — which is helpful because those can be the hardest to buy. Co-workers don’t usually give you a list. The store also had plenty of wrapping paper and gift bags to make those presents cheerful.

Apparel

The apparel sections for both kids and adults were the surprise favorite for us! Truly, the whole “ugly sweater” concept was taken up to a thousand at Spirit Christmas. If you want a tinsel vest, you’ve got it. Plus, there were tons of cute hats, gloves, cozy socks and pajamas. Kids’ apparel was similar, but with a couple of changes — instead of a candy cane blazer, for example, the kids’ section had a full-on reindeer onesie pajama set with antlers.

Tons Of Merchandise

Even as we walked around, store staff were adding to the shelves. We hope to see even more options at this store in the next couple of weeks! The store is taking donations for Children’s National Hospital, and you have the option to add a donation to your purchase.

As the holiday season kicks off, we’re excited to see how everyone gets into the Christmas spirit! Let us know your exciting plans and favorite spots.
